How PET Helps

The New Orleans Regional PET Center is dedicated to helping you by providing doctors with the technology to see things better. It's called PET - Positron Emission Tomography. And getting a PET scan is an easy, painless procedure. With the use of unique and medically safe tracers, PET reveals more about what's going on inside your body. Because PET assesses chemical and physiological changes related to metabolism, it allows doctors to detect disease earlier by seeing it at the functional stage, before it gets to the structural level. Seeing disease at an earlier stage is what makes PET superior to other imaging techniques such as CAT or MRI. PET's unique technology also allows doctors to manage your care more effectively by providing early feedback about how well your treatment is working. PET can even provide information which may eliminate the need for invasive procedures or multiple tests.
